Gynaecologist Dr. Archana Sharma accused of causing the death of a pregnant woman at a private hospital in Dausa, Rajasthan, committed suicide on March 29, police said.

Hundreds of doctors stopped working Friday, demanding justice for Dr Archana Sharma, who committed suicide in Rajasthan’s Dausa district, after filing a lawsuit against her, holding her responsible for the death of a patient during childbirth.

Asha Bairwa, 22, died after giving birth at Anand Hospital in Lasot, Dausa on Monday. After her death, her husband Laluram Bairwa and his relatives returned to the village with the body but returned to the hospital a short time later – along with the body and several local BJP leaders. As protests escalated, local police arrived at the scene and ensured they would take the appropriate action and investigation.

Seemingly disturbed by developments and FIRs, Dr Sharma left a letter and committed suicide on Tuesday. In the letter, she wrote: “I love my husband and children very much. Please don’t bother them after I die. I didn’t do anything wrong and I didn’t kill anyone. PPH [postpartum hemorrhage] is a known complication, so stop bothering your doctor about it too much.”
“Perhaps my death will prove my innocence. Don’t harass innocent doctors. Please,” she wrote.

The Indian Dental Association also supported the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in Friday’s strike.

Dr Anil Naushran, former secretary of the IMA, said more than 1,400 doctors allied with the IMA, Meerut, who held a meeting about Dr Gautam’s suicide.

The doctors demanded the enactment of the “Medical Protection Act” to protect doctors from such harassment and said the doctors were doing their best to protect the lives of their patients. . They said it would be difficult for them to work in light of the growing intolerance of patients and family members.

Dr Naushran said all the doctors affiliated with the IMA, the Dental Association and the physiotherapists took leave on Friday and provided urgent care only.
